Over summer 2021, we implemented field topography changes and installed nursery access roads (Phase II) in Trella’s south field. In late 2021, the next phase of construction starts. This Phase III irrigation project installs the irrigation system in the south field and connects the system of pipes to the north field. Manual and mechanical values serve to distribute water to areas of need. The system installed in the south field uses minimal water because it is a drip irrigation system. Small, above ground tubes and emitters bubble water near the plants. This allows the water to infiltrate the root system rather than flow across the surface of the soil or evaporate. By comparison, traditional irrigation systems waste a tremendous amount of water. Young trees from Trella’s greenhouse can be planted in the field as soon as the construction is complete.
