Because root quality is our highest priority for seedlings, seeds are planted in the Super Center to ensure the root grows straight from the seed. To accomplish this some varieties are sown in the autumn and by January they begin to emerge. Though they appear tender like a bean sprout they are tough and endure cold temperatures. Other seed varieties require cold and wet treatment, stratification, before they will germinate. During stratification we test their physiological status in a germination chamber. This allows us to optimize their sowing and emergence in the greenhouse.
